Heading to the graveyard to rescue Mirana, the Companions stop by the vampire brothel to see if they know anything about the cults residing there, since they include a pack of vampires called the Charnel Things.

They explain that Grigori and Nikolai lead the Charnel Things, feeding on the destitute of Gloomwrought. Apparently Nikolai is the smart one, but he has no tongue and the pair is difficult to bargain with – they can only be bribed with food.

The Companions, unwilling to just toss some unfortunates to the vampires, decide to take their chances in a negotiation. Encountering the brothers in the graveyard, the Companions convinced Grigori that they don’t taste very good and clearing out the Vecnites would give him more territory to control. Nikolai intimates that he wouldn’t overthrow his brother, but he wouldn’t attack him either. The group debates playing vampire kingmaker but doesn’t take any immediate action. Surina does announce that she intends to kill Grigori after the Vecnites are destroyed. This news pleases Nikolai.

Nikolai leads us to the Vecnite domain where, shockingly -

Combat ensued!

The Companions defeat the undead banderhobs and the Vecnites, recovering some blank parchments that required a special candle to make the ink appear.

One of the scrolls read: I’ve just received word from my spies in the Drowned Ward that the Six have arrived in the city. Our master must have the woman who is with them—Mirana. He bids you capture her and hold her until further notice. See that she is not killed.

Another read: It seems that in order to disguise itself from our agents, the Blade of Kas has transformed itself into an axe. My associates in the City of Brass tell me that Bashamgurda has acquired the weapon and is seeking something called the Kulkor Obelisk in exchange for it. I have seen where Rolan keeps this obelisk, and I am negotiating with him in an effort to acquire it.

A final scroll read: The Hand has been recovered and provided a wellspring of information on these so-called heroes, which we are now calling “the Six.” Assuming that the Six managed to put down the Prince of Frost, it is more important than ever that we stop them and secure the Name. I shall advise you further when I learn more.

All three were written in the same handwritten, marked with flourishes reminiscent of the Primoridial language.

Treasure:
  • +4 harvester’s staff (given to Plovian)

The Companions had Nikolai lead Mirana out of the graveyard while they met with his brother.

Returning to Grigori, the Companions attack him.

Combat ensues!

The Companions destroy the vampire and his minions.

Treasure:
  • +4 totem of the ravenous beast (given the Thorngrim)

The Companions head to the crooked tower of Deleris a’Lindesta, the Sage of History, to ask about the origin of Prince Roland, the Sire of Shadows. A grey-eyed eladrin who is clearly insane greets them afte they knock. The eladrin claims to know little about Roland’s history, but he’s hides something behind his madness.

He shared little before Tzira set off the magical alarms upstairs and caused the insane eladrin to summon demons and attack the Companions.

Combat ensues!

The Companions barely manage to defeat his demons and knock the eladrin unconscious.

The Companions debate opening the letter for the Sire of Shadows when a random passerby saw the bodies and ran for more guards. Thorngrim noticed that the real guards had tattooed eyelids and the “guards” they had just dispatched did not, so the Companions decided to attempt honesty…

The Companions actually manage to convince the guard of the truth, though the head guard Jazir says that the situation still needs to be investigated fully. He releases them and says he will contact them later.

Thorngrim noticed three people whispering to themselves watching the situation and snuck over to eavesdrop. The trio was debating whether the Companions would be good “candidates,” concluding that they would indeed be suitable. The men had worn faces and calloused hands from a life of labor, and don’t seem particularly sophisticated. One of the men is sent to report to “Tasmin.” Thorngrim attempted to tail the one sent to report.

While carrying the bodies out of the alley, one of the guards is attacked and a sling is shoved into Plovian’s hand – the guards called out and attacked the Companions, but they were able to capture who set them up and convince the guards of their innocence.

Apparently, the attacker was from “Midnight’s Own,” a peasant rebel group known for causing trouble.

Thorngrim follows one of the conspirators into the Drowned Ward into an unused warehouse reeking of fish. A shadow-born elf approached the conspirator Thorngrim followed, calling in “Colin” and asking what happened. Colin explained that the Companions fought some Deathless Guards (he didn’t know the details) and then set them up to be attacked again. The elf approved, saying that should set them on the path to fighting Roland.

The elf also asked about Colin’s progress on also convincing the other adventurers (the Talon), but they’ve been staying in the tavern. Colin then left to report for his shift at the docks, and everyone echoed the cry “Make them pay!”

After giving a rousing speech, the conspirator who stayed to watch the fight with the guard appeared and whispered into the elf’s ear, darkening his mood. The elf dismissed the congregation. Colin, the conspirator and the elf (Tasmin) continue talking about their nefarious plans for arson, theft and vandalism. They also remain committed to trying to turn the Companions against Roland and his guard. They also debate interfering with an execution of “Noristro” tomorrow. After they left, Thorngrim checked out the warehouse but wasn’t able to find anything incriminating.

Back at the inn, the proprietor tells the Companions about the history of the city of Gloomwrought, how it was born from nothing and people came to settle later. Roland has been ruling the city for at least 600 years. The keepers have been in the city almost from the beginning, but only the Widow of the Walk knows all about the city. Driven mad by the death of her five children who were killed in battle when Roland came to power. The Companions also find out that Noristro is being executed because he made an enemy of Olisk Carrad.

Tzira is able to open the missive for Prince Roland: Prince Rolan. The Raven’s Wing is compromised. Someone has been sending false letters on your behalf. We have a lead on the traitor and are attempting to capture him. Send no further messages via our couriers until you have confirmation from me. ~Bella, the Black Feather.

The Companions went to Harskell’s Emporium to pick up the invitations to the ball and were able to get one for the Talon. They also purchase a variety of extravagant costumes for the ball as well.

They then go to the Deathless Guard to find out about Noristro and share the information they have on Midnight’s Own. They find out that Noristro is being held by House Gorad (a merchant family), apparently for simply not having the appropriate permits to conduct business. The Guard can’t help the Companions get to him.

They next head to the Raven’s Monger next to set up an appointment with Bella. Explaining the situation to her, she revealed that the traitor was “Kedrith,” whom they have captured. She took the letter for the Sire of Shadows and the Companions offered to deliver it for her, but she said she needed to debate that, suspicious of Tzira’s Fleetfoot connections.

She also mentioned that a sage of history, Dalarus Alendestra, might know the Prince’s name.

Bella takes the Companions to speak with Kedrith, a shadowborn dwarf. Under duress, he reveals that he was secretly and magically contracted by a member of Roland’s household and given money and an envelope of instructions. He was also specifically instructed to eliminate the Companions when they arrived.

Recovering his instructions from his quarters, the Companions find 200 platinum pieces and the instructions specify that they should be incapacitated and prevented from seeing Prince Roland, but should not be killed. Bella does not recognize the script.

Total Party Treasure: 19,994 gp

The Companions then head to House Carrad to try to get in to see Noristro. The guards at the front gate apparently recognized them, but still made them wait to enter to meet with Olisk, who has apparently been waiting for us.

He reveals that Noristo matters little to him and he might be freed. Olisk explains that Kuniri, a member/advisor of Roland’s household that has been undermining the city, and Olisk’s influence. He wants Kuniri removed from the picture. Kuniri is apparently working with Prince Roland to siphon life from the Prince’s daeva consort Feria (the Shadow Angel).

Heading back to the inn, Chance is waiting for us at the inn to report that some frog-like creature kidnapped Mirana. Heading back to the boat to talk to Marek and get some guidance on our course of action, he tries to conceal that he knew Feria but wasn’t able to. She is apparently a “troubled soul” in risk of being reborn as a rakshasa.

Following some tracks and talking to witnesses and guards, the Companions follow the banderhob (the frog-creature) to an abandoned opera house in the Drowned Ward. Apparently the opera house is infamous as where the shadow operas were once held. Apparently it is now the den of the Tenebrous Cabal.

Opening the doors, the Companions are attacked by the shadows, scouring them with cold and necrotic energy. Walking to the stage, Surina calls out for Mirana and a deep voice responds: “Who intrudes upon the House of Shadows?” A shadowy figure denies kidnapping Mirana. He was honest about not having kidnapped her, but was hiding something regarding other groups that used banderhobs.

Combat ensued!

The shadow creatures were defeated (after the swallowed both Plovian and Naurak) and the Tenebrous Cabal revealed that a cult of Vecna had been slaying the banderhobs and reanimating them. They also healed the Companion’s wounds to some degree as an apology for not cooperating before. The shadows coalesce into a rode of Amor of Night, which Plovian took.

Talking with the prisoners of the Prince of Frost, the Companions discovered that many of them had been captured for their knowledge of Raven Queen, or the locations where important artifacts are held, like the Vault of the Drow.

Veil takes Gentoo aside to offer to help restore his hand if they Companions will talk to one of his associates in the Shadowfell…

The Companions drop of Quellena at Astrazalian and then on to Gloomwrought, an ominous, gothic city. They pull up to the public docks and the harbormaster marches up on board.

160 gp spent on docking fees (plus generous bribes). Remaining Treasure: 17,310 gp

The harbormaster (Kumorn) recommends the Companions contact House Harskel to try to get into the palace to talk to the Sire of Shadows.

Walking through the city, the Companions pass by some keepers and are able to confirm that they are not recognized. They continue through the city to a building in the Fettered Ward with a red door, shaped like a mouth. It contains a brothel apparently staffed with vampires.

The madame introduces herself as Lareen and invites the Companions into the back. She explains that her organization (apparently in the service of Kas, an old servant of Vecna with a grudge) opposes Vecan and would be happy to help the Companions if they continue to fight against Vecna. She explains that the Sword of Kas would make it possible to prevent Vecna from discorporating and allow his destruction. Unfortunately, she doesn’t know where the sword is. Lareen offers what aid and knowledge she can provide in the defeat of Vecna.

She also offers to make Gentoo a vampire to restore his arm. He accepts, of course.

“You have your arm back, but your dick is ours!”

Leaving the Fettered Ward in Gloomwrought and returning to the market ward, the Companions are divided when the walls of the city separate them into two groups and the cobblestones form enormous golem-like creatures and some gargoyles came to life.

Combat ensues!

When the fight turned against them, the gargoyles fled. One gargoyle who had been watching the fight explained that the Raven’s Wing had sent them to take care of us, at the behest of the Sire of Shadows.

Going inside a nearby inn, the Companions found the Falcon and her crew… Surina, suffering from the gloom’s amnesia, had an entertaining encounter with the Falcon.

After hearing everything the Companions had done, the Falcon explained that she had heard she was fated to break the Sword of Unmaking as well (furthering the rivalry with Surina). She also gave advice on how to speak with the Sire of Shadows: apparently House Harskel is hosting a masquerade in a few days that the Sire should be attending.

If the Companions want to sneak in, the Falcon recommended going to Slippery Trip’s.

Finally, the Falcon explained that the Raven’s Wing is a neutral third party, a courier group that relates information around the city, often in the Sire of Shadow’s name. The Companions are suspicious that the Raven’s Wing may be working on its own now.

Back outside, Gentoo brokers an alliance with Gulgar, the gargoyle that had been watching the Companions. In exchange for attempting to destroy the Kulkor Obelisk (which keeps the gargoyles bound to the city and subservient).

The Companions head to Harskel’s Emporium and manage to secure invitations (pending confirmation of details) based on a story about the Aldorian family wanting to do business in the city. Gentoo spread rumors to that effect to further support the cover story, though while he’s doing that Surina attempts to intimidate/seduce the commander of the Crimson Guard.

A shadar-kai with a cloak of raven feathers walks in, the inn falling quiet. He grabs a notice off the mast and heads out, after looking at the Companions. He is apparently Orsen, Marshall of the Crows, leader of the Brotherhood of Crows. He used to be part of the order of the Raven Queen, but was dissatisfied with how things were run and left, now operating like a terrorist.

Going to another inn, two figures ran past the Companions – a member of the Deathless Guard chasing a courier from the Raven’s Wing. They run into an alleyway, which turned out to be a trap with more waiting Deathless Guard. They don’t seem to be acting with full authority for some reason…

Combat ensues!

The courier died, but managed to hand off a scroll case to the Companions, saying “For the Prince’s eyes only…”

The Companions recoup for a moment and prepare to assault a small god’s lair: the Prince of Frost…

Stepping into the throne room, the Prince of Frost welcomes the Companions, asking what they want and about his minions. He revealed that he had actually started as a low-level eladrin knight the Companions had fought earlier but had been hurtled back in time when they had scattered everyone through the ages.

The Prince offered the Companions a deal: let him see the book and he can offer them nearly anything they want. He asserted that he had no intention of destroying the world, that was Vecna’s plan and that deal has ended.

The Companions obviously don’t accept his offer, and combat ensues!

During the fight, Tzira and Gentoo fell into the Font of Roses and had a vision of tattooed eladrin (including Naivara’s father) asking them why they were there and what right they had to touch the Font. Tzira explained that the Companions were overthrowing the Prince of Frost, and the eladrin gave their blessing (and confirming the story the Prince of Frost had given about going back in time) and returned them to the fight. Gentoo lost the Orb of Baramas and the Hand of Vecna in the pool, however.

Destroying the Seed of Winter and breaking the Prince’s god-like power, the Companions were able to force him to surrender.

Chrysanthemum Shield is in the Vault of the Drow, in the temple of the priestesses. The Prince explained who had been working with among the drow. He also confirmed that the name of the rahvaasta that has been working behind the scenes is Irinuk.

The Companions spared the life of the Prince of Frost in return for his oaths to never confront us again, or to ally with our enemies.

The Companions offered to return the Prince of Frost’s former prisoners to their homes, with several of them electing to stay with the group on their travels, at least until they do go through their homes.

They also cleaned up the grove and returned to speak with Naivara.

Treasure:
  • A set of divine vestments lined with winter wolf fur (1,500 gp)
  • A golden crown set with moonstones and pearls (2,500 gp) (eladrin in make)
  • A bag of skulls of eladrin.

  • Sehanine’s Mark of the Dark Moon (level 18) for Tzira
  • +4 rod of sylvan trickery (level 20)

The Companions returned to tell Naivara about the defeat of the Prince of Frost, setting her spirit at peace.

They also return to the firbolg village to tell them about the heroic sacrifice of their chieftans, giving them the corpse of the remorahz to them as a trophy.

The Companions decide to head to Gloomwrought to deal with the Sire of Shadows and the items he has in his possession.

The Companions head into a wintry garden filled with frozen statues – actually frozen creatures bound in permanent ice. They examined one of the statues, trying to figure out how to released the trapped creature inside when the central tree in the guardian warned them not to disturb the “perfection of winter.”

Invoking the Prince of Frost’s name was enough to convince the Companions to destroy the arcane bindings on the statues.

Combat ensues!

The Companions defeated the warped treants and were able to free all of the frozen creatures:
  • Dak, a githzerai
  • Marek, a deva
  • Gendar, the drow alchemist from Thunderport
  • Quelenna, an eladrin apparently connected with the Summer Queen
  • Mirana, everyone’s favorite emo girl

  • Vale, a morbid human
Thorngrim realized that the empowered sap from the treants could be used to manufacture some potions to heal or empower:
  • 3 daily powers restored (given to Surina, Naurak and Gentoo)
  • 3 healing potions (to restore 25 points each) (given to Tzira, Surina and Naurak)

Quelenna explains that the Font is behind the throne, warning that the Prince of Frost may have tried to seal it off. Mirana asked whether any of the followers of Vecna had been seen in the keep, and explained that she had been captured by the Prince of Frost because of what she knows about the Raven Queen.

Tzira and Thorngrim explored an attached chamber holding a massive statue of an eladrin with emeralds for eyes and a rose emblazoned on its chest – suggesting that it’s connected to Naivara’s family. A stairway leads up to another floor.

The statue is bound in magic, apparently containing an benevolent intelligence, some kind of defender of the citadel. Thorngrim, Gentoo and Surina manage to pull down the barrier binding it. The emeralds light up and the statue activates. The Companions entreat it to assist in the assault on the castle. It says that it is the Colossus of Sendrian, and that they can call upon it when they need it to assist.

The Companions sneak up the stairs to the next level and hear an alarm raised that there is an attack at the front of the keep. Several cyclops ran past toward the battle, and the Companions followed them to the main courtyard where the battle has begun.

Combat ensues!

The Companions were barely victorious, with the assistance of the Colossus of Sendrian and the firbolg battering down the door. Huldred, the firbolg chieftain, fell in the battle but Pyraden (the sympathetic firbolg hunter) survived. The Companions entered the hedge maze, trying to find their way to the throne room.

After being turned around in the maze, the Companions manage to negotiate with some guards and emerge into a manor house and encounter a drow.

Surprisingly, combat ensues!

Thorngrim managed to kill two drow and bloody another by charging twice across the battlefield, playing dweezle pinball (+1 fun point to Derek).

As the tide of the battle turned, one of the drow surrendered and – surprisingly – the Companions didn’t kill him. He explained that his matron was meeting with the Prince of Frost about a treaty for mutual defense, dividing up their realms. The matron was of the priesthood and the other dead drow were of House Gadeep (wielding platinum crossbows). The survivor said that House Ziqnah was also accompanying the negotiations and he wore a Lapis Lazuli dagger. They came from the Vault of the Drow: Erelheicinlu.

Searching the house, the Companions find portions of a contract between the drow and the Prince of Frost and reports from House Ziqnah about an insurgence of a drow cult of the Elder Elemental Eye.

Treasure:
  • potion of health (Tzira used)
  • potion of resistance (Surina used)

The drow isn’t willing to help the Companions get into the Vault of the Drow later, but does say that the fomori have a detailed map of the city. If they can get into the city, and under the right circumstances, he might be able to help. He tells the Companions to ask for Nalva – but to avoid asking at for him at House Ziqnah, as the rest of his family is a bit zealous in their hatred of outsiders.

The archfey Skyshaper welcomes the companions into her cave. She cautions them that they will face much worse opponents if they continue to antagonize the prince of Frost. Her advice is to “not make an enemy of him.”

She says that the Prince of Frost will know that the Companions are coming, since the banshrae had already passed through the area. She shares some information for free, since the Companions were so entertaining:

The Prince of Frost was not always such. He derives his power from the Seed of Winter. He is nigh invulnerable as long as he has it, but if it can be stolen from him, then there is a chance.

The Skyshaper tells the Companions to seek the aid of those familiar with his fortress and the lands of Sendrian to find the seed.

Tzira offered the eyes of the seeress Lady Sar to the Skyshaper, in exchange for information on how to track down the errant banshrae. The archfey attached a green cloud to the creature, to allow the Companions to track it.

The Companions launch their ship and Tzira spots the cloud. Tracking it to the banshrae, the Companions dropped the ship just ahead of it to try to intercept it. They stumbled into a group of firbolgs who agreed to lead us to the banshrae, but required that the Companions speak with the Supreme Hunter Huldred to determine what they can do with the banshrae. The firbolg take them to their camp.

Pyraden, the firbolg guide, spoke to the Companions to confirm if they were enemies of the Prince of Frost. He confirms that they will find no enemies of the Prince among the firbolg.

Arriving at the camp, the Companions find Huldred watching a brutal dogfight.

There was a female firbolg with a moon-mask (a priestess of Sehanine) who was immediately dubbed a “fembolg.” Derek Fun Points: +2

Unable to impress the firbolg by simply talking (and after being accused of using magic), the Companions offer to prove their strength by taking down the Great White Beast. The Companions leave with a firbolg escort to “watch their deaths.”

Pyraden explains that the Great White Beast has four arms – Plovian identifies it as a girallon, a great ape that rips people apart. He also explains that Huldred is a sworn ally of the Prince of Frost (or at least a non-agression pact), and the firbolg always keep their word – but they don’t seem to be happy with being beholden to the Prince or the priestess of Sehanine (the moon-seer). Apparently she was the one who brokered the deal with the Prince of Frost.

The Companions reached the clearing where the girallon laired – and it charged them as they approached.

Combat ensued!

The moon-seer interfered with the battle, assisting the girallon. Upon murdering her, her mask falls of and revealed that she was actually a hag.

Treasure:
  • +4 rod of the hag -> Gentoo
  • +4 sylvan leather armor -> Gentoo

The Companions skinned and cooked the girallon, preparing the pelt and both hearts as a gift for the Supreme Hunter. They also consumed much of the white beast in celebration.

Pyraden was concerned how the tribe would take the news of the hag’s deception, but the Companions returned to the encampment.

Gifting the tokens to the Supreme Hunter, he seemed distracted and almost absent-minded. The Companions reveal to him that the moon-seer had been replaced by a hag. The group adjourned to speak in private.

The Companions manage to convince Huldred of the truth and turning his anger against the Prince of Frost. He drags the banshrae out of another tent, tossing the surprised creature into the middle of the camp. Huldred draws an enormous sword and cleaves it two.

The Supreme Hunter Huldred shouted that the Great Hunt will begin, with the Prince of Frost as the prey. He calls a war council to plan the attack, including the Companion.

Huldred wants to hunt the Prince of Frost, but first he must weaken him – by capturing the Seed of Winter. The firbolg will distract the Prince’s forces while the Companions capture the Seed, then they can enter his fortress and attack directly.

Pyraden escorts us to the territory of Lady Naivarra, then leaves to return to his tribe. Her realm, deep within the frozen forest, is a bubble of summer warmth. Bones of giants and cyclopes litter a clearing where the Companions encounter dryad and treant agents of the Lady. They challenges the Companions and almost fight, but a voice like a summer breeze says that the group may pass.

Thorngrim grunted at the treants and made suggestive comments to Gentoo about “climbing trees” and about how he needs a corpse to feed to them… +1 fun point to Derek (total 12)

Walking through the woods and a small cave, the Companions find a chamber with massive standing stones that thrums with primal energy. A humanoid figure coalesces out of the light.

The Companions begin to explain the prophecies to Naivara, but she interrupts to ask if they know Aban Aldorian. She explains that this situation sounds like one of his manipulations. He had told Naivara and her companions that the Golden Orb of Baramus that it was a fragment of a god that could grant everyone’s deepest wish.

Naivara claimed that she didn’t want the orb for any particular reason, but the Companions confront her on that lie. She admits that she had wanted to remove her gift of foresight.

“Gentoo is willing to be known by anything attractive and female.” (+1 fun point to Gwen)

Naivara says she has the angel’s heart, but she won’t give it to us until we destroy the Seed of Winter – which is found beneath the Throne of Roses (the seat of her father, Ambrose). The Seed’s power can be broken if placed in the Golden Font in the Garden of Roses.

Naivara also explains that the angel sword is in Inathriamkavendil’s possession in Sigil. Machtiel, the Sword of Unmaking, is now in the hands of the Sire of Shadows (the fake Machtiel is actually named Moonlight). The Crysanthemum Shield is deep in the Feydark in the possession of the drow.

She also says that the Companions created the Sire of Shadows and the Prince of Frost.

Two fates lie before the Companions: the one that Aban Aldorian has created, and the one in the visions. “Let the Queen of Ravens die so that many may live.”

She mentioned that Irendil, the rhavaasta or the Fox, works against Aban Aldorian.

Destroying the two swords may break the prophecy and release fate.

Naivara promised to lead us to the Seed of Winter, but warns that if the Companions do not destroy the Seed, they will die. She extends her hand a crystal rose (an elemental prism).

After briefly resting, the Companions decided to go to Regnesia, on the continent of Keslinn. Using the Runekeel, they teleport to the city and dock… with a modicum of dignity.

The dockmaster checked the ship in and gave them some bearings on the ship, though both he and the other people at the port were rather surprised by the strange appearance of the ship.

Thorn decided she needed to “find herself” again and set off on her own to book passage to the Shadowfell.

Looking for shipwrights to repair the airship, the Companions approach an Aldorian ship docked at the port. Sandra and Chance, two of the shipwrights in charge of repairs, agree to work on the ship, but want to hear the full story over lunch.

Sandra recognized Gentoo, talking about how his younger brother – and someone who looked like his older brother, but he doesn’t have one… She also said that Gentoo’s father had been assassinated by the Red Water Guild.

Going to the Dog & Duck to eat and share the story, the Companions found Gentoo’s human half-brother (Artrell) and his minions roughing up a disheveled man who looked like the brother, but 20 years older. Upon noticing Gentoo, Artrell visibly pales but welcomes his brother with a hug – and a dagger!

Combat ensued!

During the fight, Artrell (and his men) turned out to be a doppleganger. The disheveled man claimed he was told that he was an Aldorian, and that the “Feywild will be split in two.” He was sent to the city (and the Companions) on the urging of some Feywild seer.

Searching the body of the imposter Artrell, the Companions found the Aldorian Birthright Amulet (amulet of the diplomat lvl 17) and the family signet ring (ring of true seeing).

Treasure in the dopplegangers’ room:
  • 10 bags of 50 platinum each (5,000 gp)
  • unsent letter to Vidalgo Lassar, informing him that Lindillus Aldorian, but there is not sign of Aban or Gendilus. The “mother” and “sister” have been sent to the safe house in the country.

Interrogating the doppleganger, he reveals that Artrell had been a doppleganger since childhood. House Lagos and the Wintershard Fey (and House Lassar) had a long-term plan that came to a conclusion when Lendilus was killed and the dopplegangers took over control of the house. Apparently the Fleet-Foot halfling clan was involved in the assassination. The estate steward of House Aldorian is a doppleganger as well. The Companions actually release the prisoners to the police in the city, to the surprise of Surina.

Most of the Companions went to speak with Surina’s father (a great historian who was rather dismissive of her daughter) to find out about the history of Tol Lorathus and the arms and armor of the Golden General. The ring of tactical brilliance was worn by Kael when he died fighting the chaos dragon. The shield of the Golden General was born by one of the personal guards of the Lady of Pain in Sigil. The mantle of the Golden General is in the Feywild. The crown of the Golden General is in the possession of the Sire of Shadows (presumably in Gloomrot). Drow in the Feywild have the crystal shield that needs to be returned to the genasi queen of the lost continent.

Gentoo sent a message to his mother via the sending ritual: Dopplegangers infest house. Both Steward & Artrell are. Take charge. Trust only sister. Be safe.

Surina went to meet with her mother (who demanded to know of her all victories, none of which were ever, ever enough).

Sandra (the shipwright) found an excellent crew for our ship, a crew she had heard great things about: her and her assistants: Chance & Krull. Their rate is 75 gp a week.

In the library, the Companions researched the Elemental Princes of Evil and the three items that matter to the prophecy (the angelic sword & gem, the Sword of Unmaking, and the crystal shield).

The next morning, the Companions planeshifted to Sindrian, in the Feywild. The arrived at the edge of a chilled forest, near the cave of the Skyshaper, an archfey seer. Sandra set the ship down amidst the trees to hide it.

The region seems to be slowly being taken over by frost and the power of Winter…

Approaching a frozen stream, the Companions find a group of fey (two creatures of ice, several eladrin and two frost giants) a working in a magic circle outside of the Skyshaper’s cave. They shout “That’s them! Get them!”

Combat ensued, while the Skyshaper called for us to entertain her!

Having entertained her during the fight, the Skyshaper turned told the Companions that she would tell them about the Prince of Frost.

Tol Lorathus's Destruction

Accompanying Thorn’s sudden appearance were a Herald of Hadar, a Starspawn, and numerous aberrant entities. The entire room began to shake.

Combat ensued!

During the encounter, the Golden Orb of Baramus (now encasing Gentoo’s Hand of Vecna) began to glow. The Starspawn creature was heard to mutter, “Acamar calls you,” at one point, though was quickly dispatched to the cackling glee of Maktiel as Tzira sliced through the fiend. As the battle wore on, the Eladrin Queen and the Dwarven King walked through the entryway to the chamber. Despite having dispatched the Starspawn, the battle began to grow dire as more and more aberrent entities continued to arrive in the chamber. Gentoo was seen to somehow absorb a Herald of Hadar into his arm.

Despite now having removed the worst of the two fiends from battle, the swarm of abberrant creatures overcame Surina, who collapsed onto the floor. Norak attempted to pick and carry out of the room as the company beat a hasty retreat. Thorn also managed to stumble out into the hall. Weighed down by the Dragonborn, Norak made little progress out of the room. Gentoo was able to run out of the room and Fey Switch Surina out of Norak’s arms and into the hall. Appealing to the King and Queen, the King agreed to lead the party down to the “harbor”, while the Queen’s ghostly Eladrin warriors held off the flux of abberrent creatures arriving through the portal.

The quaking of the city was now reaching worrying levels. King Karaz-u-dol dispatched a guard to retrieve Thorngrim from the level above, who eventually appeared, albeit battered and bruised. Proceeding down the stairs, everyone’s hopes sunk when they learned the Karaz-u-dol Planar Dromond ship was gone. In fact, the only ship that could be seen in the port was the Shadercai ship. At this point, it was clear that the earth mote was collapsing. Boarding the Shadercai ship was easy, despite the presence of the crew, since the crew was largely concerned with casting off.

Combat ensued!

As Thorngrim and Thorn made their way below-deck to find refuge, the companions concerned themselves with dispatching the now-very-angry Shadercai crew. During the fight, Gentoo slid the Shadercai at the wheel away, sending the ship listing to the side and casting everyone on the deck sliding onto the ground. Shortly after that, the chunk of the earth mote that the ship was moored to broke away and began falling, spinning the ship to the other side and beginning a rapid descent. Tzira was actually cast off the ship, but through skillful acrobatics, was able to use the falling rubble from the earth mote to eventually clamber back onto the ship.

After the Shadercai crew had been dispatched, the ship (and those aboard) had taken significant damage from falling rubble. However, the Planar Dromond was still operational. Searching the ship showed a book of coordinates with the following entries.

  • Gloomrot
  • Sindrian (Wintershard)
  • Ragniesia (capital of Teluvia, major human empire)
  • Brass (risky)
  • Chernoggar
  • Sigil
  • Aruandon (Salanine and Corellon)
  • Astra Zalerc

The companions elected to travel first to Ragniesia to perform repairs on the ship, and then to Sindrian to continue with their quest.
